Population Association of Singapore Best Student Paper Award

We are pleased to announce that the winner of

Population Association of Singapore’s 2023 Best Student Paper Award

is

Ms Jolene Tan

for her outstanding paper titled Housing, Marriage, and Childbearing Pathways in a Low-fertility Setting.

Jolene’s paper adopts on a data-driven approach to describe the complex and interrelated trajectories across adulthood and examines how these trajectories are patterned by earlier life circumstances.

Joint 2nd Prize Winners

We would also like to recognize the joint seconds of the award, Ms Nanxun Li and Mr Yanwen Wang, for their exceptional contributions and congratulate them on their achievement.

Using data from the Singapore Longitudinal Early Development Study, Nanxun’s paper found that taking paternity leave had both direct and indirect effects on preschool children’s academic and behavioral outcomes through enhanced family dynamics, strengthened father-child closeness, and increased fathers’ involvement.

Yanwen’s article “Social Trust and Couples’ Subjective Well-Being: A Dyadic and Longitudinal Perspective” accentuates the relational nature of social trust and finds that it not only benefits individuals’ own well-being but also spills over to affect spousal well-being, unidirectionally from husbands to wives.

Congratulations and thank you to all the participants on their remarkable efforts and we wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
